REGENERATIVE ORGANIC

Ready to Go Beyond Organic?

What We Do for Regenerative Organic

Regenerative Organic Certified builds on USDA Organic. You need organic certification first. Then you meet added standards for soil health, animal welfare, and fair treatment of workers. We get you ready for both.

Organic First

The regenerative standard requires USDA Organic or an equal standard as its base. We get you certified organic and keep you there.

Common Questions

Do I need USDA Organic before I apply for Regenerative Organic Certified?

Yes. Regenerative Organic Certified requires USDA Organic or an equivalent standard as its base.

What does Regenerative Organic Certified cover?

Three things: soil health and land management, animal welfare, and fairness for farmers and workers.

Are there levels?

Yes. Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Each level asks for more practices on more of the farm.

Who does the audit?

Approved certification bodies audit against the Regenerative Organic Alliance standard. We prepare you. The certifier decides.

How long does it take?

For a farm that is already certified organic, plan on one to two seasons, mostly to build the soil health and worker records.

Do I need animals on the farm?

No. The animal welfare part applies if you raise animals.

Is it worth it for my farm?

It depends on your buyers. We check what your market asks for before you spend money on it.

The Three Pillars

Soil health and land management. Animal welfare. Fairness for farmers and workers. USDA Organic is the base under all three.

Bronze, Silver, and Gold

The standard has three levels. Each one asks for more practices on more of your land. You can start at one level and move up.

What the Audit Looks At

Your organic certificate, your soil tests and soil health practices, how animals are raised if you have them, and written proof of how workers are paid and treated.

Who this is for

Certified organic farms and brands whose buyers are asking for regenerative claims, and farms that already farm this way and want it recognized.
