ORGANIC INPUT REVIEW

Is This Product Allowed in Organic?

What We Check Before You Buy

One wrong fertilizer, spray, or seed treatment can cost a field its organic status for three years. We check every input against the organic rules before you buy it or use it.

Why Farms Ask Us Before They Buy

A label that says natural or organic does not make a product allowed. We look at what is really in it.

Common Questions

How do I know if a product is allowed in organic farming?

Check every ingredient against the USDA National List, then ask your certifier before you use it. Lists from review groups help, but your certifier has the final say.

Is a product marked natural or organic always allowed?

No. Some natural products are prohibited, and some labels say organic when they mean something else. We check the ingredients.

What happens if I use a prohibited product?

The field may lose organic status for 36 months from the date it was used. Tell your certifier right away.

Do I need to tell my certifier before I use a new input?

Yes. New inputs belong in your Organic System Plan, and your certifier should approve them before you use them.

Can I use treated seed?

Seed treated with a prohibited substance is not allowed. You must use organic seed when you can get it, and keep a record of your search when you cannot.

Is manure allowed?

Yes, with timing rules. Raw manure must go on 120 days before harvest when the crop touches the soil, and 90 days when it does not.

Do you review ingredients for food makers?

Yes. We check ingredients, processing aids, and cleaners for handlers and food brands.

What Counts as an Input

Fertilizers, soil mixes, compost, sprays, seed treatments, inoculants, cleaners, sanitizers, and processing aids. If it touches your crop, your soil, or your product, it counts.

What to Send Us

The full label, the ingredient statement or safety data sheet, and how you plan to use the product.

Listed Does Not Mean Approved

A product on a review list still has to be in your plan and approved by your certifier before you use it.

Who this is for

Farms and food makers that are about to buy a fertilizer, spray, seed, cleaner, or ingredient and want to be sure it is allowed.

When to call us

Call before you buy, and always before you apply. Once a prohibited product touches the field, it is too late to check.

Our conflict of interest policy is simple: we never inspect an operation we consult for, and your certifier always makes the certification decision. Book a consultation to talk through where your operation stands and what it needs.
