The Walkthrough

We walk your fields, storage, and equipment with you, in person or over video, and check them against your plan.

The Trace Test

We follow one product from field or supplier to sale, the same way an inspector will, and find the gaps first.

Your Fix List

A short list of what to fix before the inspector comes, in plain words, in order of what matters most.

Why Operations Choose Kona Organic for Inspection Prep

Most noncompliances come from missing records, not bad farming. We find the gaps first, so inspection day holds no surprises.

Common Questions

What happens during an organic inspection?

The inspector checks that your plan matches what you really do. Expect a walk of your fields or facility, a look at your records, and a trace of one product from start to sale.

How long does an organic inspection take?

Most take half a day to a full day, depending on the size of your operation.

What records should I have ready?

Input receipts, harvest and sales logs, cleaning logs, supplier certificates, and your current Organic System Plan.

When should we book prep?

Two to six weeks before your inspection, so there is time to fix what we find.

Is this the same as an inspection?

No. Your certifier sends the inspector and makes every decision. We help you get ready.

Can you prep us remotely?

Yes. We can run a practice inspection by video, with photos and shared records, anywhere in the world.

Can an inspection be unannounced?

Yes. Certifiers do some unannounced inspections each year. Keeping your records current means you are ready either way.

What Happens at an Organic Inspection

The inspector opens with questions, reads your records, walks the fields or the plant, runs a trace on one product, and ends with an exit interview that lists any issues. The inspector does not make the decision. Your certifier does.

The Trace Test and Mass Balance

The inspector picks one product and follows it from seed or supplier to sale. Then the inspector checks that you did not sell more organic product than you grew or bought. We run both with you first.

What to Have Ready

Your current Organic System Plan, your input list with labels, seed and supplier records, harvest and sales records, cleaning logs, and the last letter from your certifier.

Who this is for

Any operation with an inspection coming, first time or yearly, and anyone who had a rough inspection last year.

When to call us

Call four to six weeks before your inspection. That leaves time to fix what the practice run finds.

Our conflict of interest policy is simple: we never inspect an operation we consult for, and your certifier always makes the certification decision. Book a consultation to talk through where your operation stands and what it needs.
